The Monthly Survey of Services produces indicators to follow up the short-term behavior of the services sector in Brazil. The survey investigates the gross revenue from services in formal enterprises, employing 20 or more persons, in which the main activity is a non-financial service, excluding the areas of health and education.
The survey was started in January 2011 and produces indicators from January 2012 onwards. It consists of general indicators for Brazil and for the 27 Federation Units, with no further details on activities. On the other hand, indicators on activities are available for Brazil, under the following groups and subgroups: services rendered to families (housing and food; other services rendered to families); information and communication services (ICT services; audiovisual, publishing and news agency services); professional, administrative and complementary services (technical-professional services; administrative and complementary services); transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing activities (land transportation; sea transportation; warehousing, support activities for transportation and mailing activities); and other services. Indicators by activity are also produced for the states of Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Goiás and the Federal District, disaggregated in: service rendered to families; information and communication services; professional, administrative and complementary services; transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing activities; and other services.
